Creme Brulee has become the one Keto treat that I make every week. My favorite part about this treat is it can be eaten at any time of the day.
When I first made the creme brulee, I really enjoyed having it as a breakfast treat. I decided to experiment with the recipe to change the flavors. Here are the five variations I came up with:
1. Vanilla Creme Brulee
The creme brulee recipe I use is from the Lazy Girl Blog. One of the ways I like to add variation to the vanilla creme brulee is by adding various toppings, my favorite being fresh berries. I also added a tablespoon of Swerve and used a butane torch to create that deliciously sweet and crunchy topping.
Another way you can make your creme brulee sweet and crunchy is by adding HighKey’s new Protein Cereal! My favorite flavor is theirChocolate Cereal. It tastes exactly like Cocoa Puffs and it has 0 net carbs!
2. Chocolate Creme Brulee
The ramekins I have in my cupboard are 3.5 oz which is smaller than the ramekins used in the recipe so it makes two times the normal amount and cuts the carbs in half--making the creme brulee roughly 1g net carbs!
To make the chocolate creme brulee, I simply add a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder (I usethis brand) to the recipe. Note: if your ramekins are the size of the ones used in the recipe (approx. 8 oz), I would recommend using only ½ a tablespoon of cocoa powder. Otherwise, the chocolate flavor may be too strong.
Before I pour the mix into the ramekins, I strain out the little chunks of cocoa powder using a nylon mesh strainer. This ensures that the creme brulee will come out silky and smooth. :)
3. Lemon Creme Brulee
This is my favorite variation of the creme brulee! It’s light and makes a delightful summertime treat. To make the lemon creme brulee, I make a Keto lemon curd (I love Carolyn’s recipe).
Once the lemon curd and creme brulee are both cooled, I top the creme brulee with a tablespoon of the lemon curd. Note: only top the creme brulee with the lemon curd when you’re ready to eat the creme brulee. The first time I made this variation of creme brulee, I topped all of the creme brulees with the lemon curd and placed them in the fridge. When I went to eat one of the creme brulees, the lemon had *slightly* curdled the cream in the creme brulee.
4. Snickerdoodle Creme Brulee
I made this variation to be a fun dessert and I was delighted with the result! To make this variation, I added a dash of cinnamon to the creme brulee recipe. Once it was cooled, I topped it with whipped cream and crumbled a few of HighKey’s Snickerdoodle Cookies on top.
5. Caramel Creme Brulee
This is my most recent variation of creme brulee and I can’t believe it took me so long to come up with it!
To make caramel creme brulee, I used three tablespoons of Brown Swerve for the cream mixture instead of the normal Confectioners Swerve--I used two tablespoons of the latter in the egg yolk mixture.
I made Carolyn’s Caramel Sauce and poured 1 teaspoon of the warmed caramel sauce on the creme brulee for a sweet topping. You can also use a butane torch to caramelize the sauce for a crunchy topping!
Gift of JOY
When I was a kid, creme brulee was one of my favorite treats. The fact that I’ve been able to make it Keto is my Gift of Joy! Now I can enjoy this treat every day worry-free! :)
I hope you enjoyed this post! Which creme brulee variation do you like best? What ideas would you like to try to change up creme brulee?
