My Skincare Journey Part 1 - Switching Up My Routine & Initial Thoughts

My Skincare Journey Part 1 - Switching Up My Routine & Initial Thoughts

Hello! Hope you’re okay! Today's blog post is part 1 of my skincare journey! One of my goals for 2021 is to find and stick to a skincare routine that works for my skin. I have been doing some research online for skincare products that work for my skin type (I have combination skin) and I have found some products that I will be testing. Comment if you want to see more skincare blog posts on my blog!

I will be doing updates every month to let you know if the skincare products are working and if my skin has improved or not. I might add or change products in this routine if they don't help my skin so make sure to look out for the next few parts!

    Cerave Foaming Cleanser

I have seen this product all over social media and lots of people have said that this has worked for their skin. This cleanser is for normal to oily skin but I have heard that it is also suitable for combination skin. It contains niacinamide and hyaluronic acid which are both great active ingredients for my skin.

    Initial thoughts

The cleanser is less foaming than I expected it to be but it does foam up once you work it into your skin with some water. I use around 2.5 to 3 pumps of the cleanser which seems to cover my whole face. It makes my skin feel refreshed after and it doesn't make my skin dry/tight after which is great!

    The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum

I discovered this product after watching a Skincare By Hyram YouTube video and decided to get it because I have quite a lot of acne and this helps to reduce acne. It also helps with redness which will be very useful.

    Initial thoughts

This absorbs into my skin very fast so I have to apply it to my skin very quickly which is good because I can apply my moisturiser straight after which helps to balance my skin but it could mean that there might not be an even spread of the product on my face. It feels a bit sticky on my skin for the first minute but after applying my moisturiser, my skin feels fine.

Cetaphil Daily Defense Moisturiser with SPF 50

I needed to buy a new SPF because the one I was previously using clogged up my pores and it was too dark for my skin (it was a tinted one and I believe it only had one shade available). This also is a great moisturiser because it is lightweight which works best for my skin type as a morning moisturiser and for summer days.

    Initial thoughts

You definitely don't need to use a lot of this product to cover your face which I discovered after using too much the first time. It absorbs into my skin very quickly and it doesn't feel very sticky or greasy. The only small negative of this product is that it has quite a visible whitecast on your skin however you could probably cover it up with a bit of makeup if you wanted to.

    Nivea Soft Moisturiser

This is a product that I might replace in a few months time because I didn't pick this out based on my skin type so it might not work very well. I think I have used this product a while back but I can't remember how it worked with my skin.

    Initial thoughts

This product doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy and it feels very moisturising. However, my concerns are that it could make my t-zone more oily or it could clog up my pores but I will keep trialing it for now.

    Dove Beauty Cream Soap

I brought this to use on my body because I have some acne on my back and shoulders. I will use this every day (especially after workouts) to wash my body well. I've heard that this is a great product so I will be using it regularly and I will let you know if it is working for me.

    Epsom Bath Salts

This is another product to clear up my body acne. I was watching a YouTube video by Jennifer Fix and she recommended using these bath salts in the bath to get rid of body acne. I haven't used it yet but I will try and take a bath once a week using this.

Products That I Am Continuing To Use

    Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

I won't be using this every day like I used to but I will definitely be using it to remove my makeup especially when I am wearing eye makeup. This ensures that my makeup is fully removed which is very important for your skin.

L'Oreal Pure Clay Detox Face Mask

This is definitely my favourite face mask of all time and I will be continuing to use it. It helps my skin but it didn't have a big impact on my skin because of my previous skincare routine and I didn't use it enough so I'm going to try and use it once a week now.

Things That I Will Be Doing To Help My Skin

    - Changing my pillowcase at least every week

    - Changing my face towels every two days

    - Drinking 8 or more drinks per day

    - Eating healthier

I hope you've enjoyed this blog post and stay tuned for part 2!

Ella, I was going through a similar journey. I've been fighting acne for a while now, and only when I switched my skincare routine it sort of helped. I am now using the La Roche Posay Toleriane cleanser - very gentle, and a CeraVe moisturizing cream. Occasionally, I put Benzac on my breakouts. My skin has improved so much! And, curiously enough, when I add some serum/peeling/acid, it gets worse again! So, very clean & chill routine for me :)
