This collection of posts not only taught me about blog writing in 2020, but inspired me to join and contribute to Fashion Potluck. I stumbled across the platform in my seemingly infinite search for something to do on these long days of staying safe at home. I read for a bit and discovered a lot of great content. Tutorials, reviews, travel posts- all of my favorite things.
Quickly, I noticed the contributors were posting from all over the world and offered a lot of different perspectives. Plus, the Netherlands is one of my favorite places to visit so after finding out they’re based in Amsterdam I was sold.
Six specific posts stood out to me in my initial search on the platform. Conveniently they each come from a different topic on Fashion Potluck. Here’s what I loved and ultimately inspired me to create a profile and start posting.
Inspiring Tutorials

İrem M. wrote Have You Ever Made a Vision Board Before? starting with an introduction to The Secret, The Law of Attraction, and vision boards. Like great tutorials offer, there is a list of supplies and clear steps on what to do. I super appreciate that İrem includes helpful images and videos.
I learned about The Secret and Law of Attraction a while back and honestly haven’t thought about it in a long time. But after reading, I was reminded of everything I liked in the first place- concepts like positive thinking leading to positive outcomes and the importance of our energies. Obviously, I now have vision boarding on my to-do list this weekend.
Inspiring Reviews

I’m admittedly not a huge consumer of makeup, like at all. If I did a makeup haul it would have my one Burt’s Bees chapstick and that’s it. Oddly enough though, I really love good product reviews and My Summer REN Skincare Review: The Glycol Lactic Face Mask by Una Omeragic is great.
There is a comprehensive brand introduction, a detailed how-to, and beautiful photos. This is what I love about reviews, you learn everything you need to know and maybe by the end, you find a really good product. Plus Una includes a discount code for students and I’ll consider buying anything if there’s a discount.
Inspiring Style

We express our personal style every day through what we wear. That’s what so much of us love about clothing. Stay at Home in Style by Carolyn Walker captured everything I adore about fashion.
Along with four creative stay at home looks, Carolyn posted inspiring photos that are fun and thoughtful. I think I learned just as much about presenting beautiful images as I did getting recommendations for what to wear.
Inspiring Lifestyle

Nothing keeps me entertained for hours like good lifestyle content. It’s impossible to be bored when it really means anything and everything worth knowing in life. Yoga Terminology: Explained by a Sassy Semi-Beginner by Renata Leo shares something worth knowing in this funny, yet informative yoga terminology post.
Renata starts it all off with every thought I ever had while attempting a yoga practice. Then goes into breaking down all those yoga terms and phrases into something I actually understand. I genuinely feel like I’m better at yoga now after reading.
Inspiring Travel

Nothing sparks wanderlust more than not being able to travel at all. So why not dwell in making future plans now? After reading What to do in Costa Rica by Annie V, I have a new country on my long list of travel plans post-COVID.
Annie writes an impressive list that includes the kind of suggestions on accommodations, activities, and restaurants that we all love from travel blogs. Along with full reviews on her experience, she has descriptive photos that make this the ultimate travel post.
Inspiring Food

Lately, I’ve been experimenting by mixing new recipes with my favorite meals. So when I found Pesto Pasta Two Ways | Easy Recipe For Both Meat-Lovers & Vegans by Hannah Read I was very excited. Pesto has been a diet staple since childhood for me and recently I’ve been trying more vegan recipes. Basically, Hannah read my mind and wrote a blog post.
The post includes everything you need from a food blog post. There are appetizing photos, detailed instructions, and a recipe you actually want to make. Hannah even includes a helpful list of adaptations to fit what works best for you.
I Learned How To Make A Blog Post
As I was first reading these posts, I wasn’t thinking too much about specifically what I liked about them, I was just enjoying their content. But as I thought of my first post idea, I made this list and found a pattern. Each of these posts cover different topics and have a unique voice, but they also have a lot of similarities.
Attractive photos, compelling topics, and entertaining writing. All six of the posts have these key elements in common. So as I write this post and think of future topics, I’m going to remember these important points so I can keep up with this quality content.
Thank You for the Inspiration
A huge shoutout and thank you to the people who wrote these awesome posts. You all inspired me to join Fashion Potluck and start writing. I can’t wait to keep reading and getting encouraged to create!
