How To Look Taller: 5 Style Tips For Petite Women

(Hi ladies! I’m excited to share a post written by a friend of mine, Thessely Juliet, who also has a great YouTube channel. Without further ado, here’s Thess :)

People are never satisfied. Am I right?! When they have curly hair, they want it straight. When they are pale, they apply self tanner...and when they are short they do things to look taller. This last one is 100% me. I’m 5 feet tall so I’m going to share with you the 5 things I do to look taller.

    1. Tuck in that shirt

This first tip makes such a huge difference and it’s so basic, but it’s sad that I just recently started doing this. ALWAYS wear your shirt or top tucked in. By doing this you give your body a completely different proportion. The key to looking taller is to make your legs look longer, and tucking in your shirt instantly achieves this - especially if you're wearing high waisted pants. This look makes my torso look shorter and my legs look longer, and that’s exactly what I’m going for. To be honest, I didn’t do this before because I was ashamed of showing off too much ass. :s How stupid is that?! But hey, it’s 2020 and I’m finally embracing my body!

    2. High-waisted jeans are everything

As mentioned above, a pair of high-waisted jeans does wonders for us short girls. Not only does it make my legs look longer, but it also accentuates and has a slimming effect on my waist. I mean who doesn’t want that? Low-rise jeans highlight my stubby legs, which is absolutely NOT what I’m going for.

    3. Always go for cropped jackets

Besides your tops and bottoms, you also have to pay attention to the things you use as a layering component. These can take your tall-looking outfit to the next level, or it can ruin the whole thing. When picking a jean jacket, for example, go for the cropped one. This will give you a much more flattering look and underline that optimal torso-leg proportion that you just accomplished by tucking in the shirt and wearing those high-waisted jeans. A mid-length jacket will cut you off at such an unflattering height like your hips, and this defeats the whole purpose of what we’re tryna do here.

    4. Say yes to full-length cardigans

The same argument mentioned before counts for cardigans, but then the other way around. So, either go for a long ass cardigan that makes a straight line from head to toe thus elongating the body shape, or leave the cardigan alone! Those mid-length cardigans are just not for us, sis.

    5. Bootleg jeans all day every day

Here comes the magic tip. Wear bootleg/bootcut/flared jeans. So many names for the same damn thing. Wide leg jeans also work wonders. But here’s the catch, you have to wear these with high heels. I can already hear you say, of course high heels will make you look taller. But that’s not it. The length of the jeans has to be perfect. If that means you have to get a tailor, get one, because this will make all the difference. What this look does is to give the illusion that extra height genuinely comes from having long legs, because that heels are hidden. Heh heh heh! No one will know if you’re wearing 1 inch or 6 inch heels. This is honestly the look in which I feel the most confident.

Alright you guys, I hope this was helpful. Next time you’re getting dressed or shopping for a new outfit, apply these 5 simple tips. I promise you, it will make all the difference.
