DevaCurl’s One Condition Original is among some of the best conditioners for dry frizzy curly hair.
In my last post, I wrote about the newest curly hair product I tested, Miss Jessie’s Leave In Condish. In this post, I’m sharing my all-time favorite product for curly hair, DevaCurl’s One Condition Original.
It Will Hydrate Your Curls
Curly hair needs to stay hydrated and this conditioner helps. For most curl types, One Condition will give enough moisture to start the rest of the hair care routine without having to worry about dryness or frizz. This post from Chloe gives other tips for maintaining curls while at home.
It Has Olive Oil, Rosemary, and No Gluten
The one (of many) question we should ask about all the products we use—what’s in it? Of the many scientific-sounding ingredients, it includes olive oil, rosemary extract, and citric acid. And according to its DevaCurl product page, it’s…
- Sulfate-free
- Paraben-free
- Silicone-free
- Cruelty-free
- Gluten-free
- Phthalate-free
Personally, I’ve never been concerned about gluten in my hair care products. But I suppose it’s nice that One Condition doesn’t have any?
It’s Highly Reviewed
Just like the reviewers on Fashion Potluck, the DevaCurl customers have a lot to say. Of the over 400 reviews, most of them are really positive. It’s page after page of “this product is great!” and “absolutely love this product!”.
How to Use It
As for how to use it, you won’t need a tutorial to explain how it works. After cleansing, add to your hair and rinse.
The Cost Has Value
In terms of price, the 3oz is $10, the 12oz is $24, and the 32oz is $46. I’ve found that the 3oz is perfect for a short trip away, the 12oz lasts about 4 months, and the 32oz is good for about a year. Always consider price and value when making a purchase. Build Your Routine Around Conditioner
This conditioner can be the building block for your entire curly hair routine. At peak lazy hair care, it can even be the one product you use to still look put together enough in public. Cleanser, conditioner, styler—in a rush, it can be used as the only step in your routine. For more time-saving beauty advice, check out what Liz and Jasmine shared.
Start a Conversation
Curly hair is fun to talk about, but it’s also a great way to think about beauty standards, gender, and race. De Djo wrote a really thoughtful post about the meaning of “good hair” and her curl story. There’s no better place than a product review to start interrogating why we want our curls to look a certain way.
The Curl Journey Is Long
Other curl reviews will tell you that there’s a lot of testing and trying before finding what works—and not everything will work for everyone’s curls. They’re right. Finding the products that work takes time.
That’s why when I finally tried DevaCurl products four years ago and found that it works for my curls, I pretty much stayed loyal to the brand all this time. But since joining Fashion Potluck and reading so many beauty and hair care reviews, I decided maybe it’s time to start trying new products.
