JOSIE MARAN ARGAN OIL – how it helped me recover my skin and hair
Product details: Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil
Argan oil is the beauty product which helps me moisturize and hydrate my skin and makes my hair beautifully soft.
You can’t really go wrong with this product, as long as it really does contain the right ingredients. However, out of so many brands producing argan oil, I have found my favorite one: the 100% pure Argan oil by Josie Maran. But before I continue praising this bottle of magic, let me elaborate on why actually Argan Oil is my favorite beauty product.
If you are interested in learning about benefits of carrier oils, this article is for you!
Argan Oil is only found in one country – Morocco
Although it is produced by brands from different locations, I still like to think of it as being a bit exclusive. The oil is extracted from a plant called Argan, which grows only in Southwestern Morocco. The origin of Argan Oil dates a long time ago. It was discovered thousands of years ago by a man called Leo Africanus who probably did not imagine how popular the oil would become in today’s beauty world. And even though the argan tree can survive for about 300 years, it is considered to be an endangered species and is protected by UNESCO.
Compared to other oils, the argan oil really absorbs easily and you don’t have to worry about it leaving marks. The Josie Maran Argan Oil is 100% organic, natural and pure and it has a lot of healing properties. I apply a few drops on my skin and gently rub it on my face and I instantly get a healthy glow. The oil really nourishes my skin as it contains loads of Vitamin E and fatty acids. Vitamin E is key to strong immunity and is also a great antioxidant. Due to its quick absorption, I also do not wash my hands after the use as it is great for the care of nails as well.
Argan oil empowers the female community
Women are the ones who manage the entire production industry of Argan oil in Morocco which gives them the opportunity to earn money independently in a very much patriarchal society. Hundreds of years ago, the first to extract the Argan Oil by hand was a woman from the Berber Tribe of North Africa and the knowledge of traditional extraction of the argan oil is passed from mother onto the daughter. Purchasing this authentic treasure means I am able to contribute to a very old tradition which I find particularly charming and empowering.
Extracting argan oil is difficult but in order to keep the best quality, it is done in the same method as hundreds of years ago. The secret to producing the oil is its step-by-step manual procedure of production and no use of sophisticated machines. As the tree is surrounded by very hard shaped nuts (said to be 16 times harder than a hazelnut!!) which contain the seeds rich in oil, the process of extracting the oil can only be done manually. The cracking of nuts is very difficult to do with a machine and the traditional production involves a stone mill and cracking the nuts by hand. Fun, or a bit weird, fact: at one point, the tribe women who were extracting the oil realized the tree-goats could help them in breaking the crust. The animals would eat the argan fruit and expel the nuts, which would be retrieved and used for the oil. Do not panic, the manufacture has indeed improved a lot and this method is not used anymore, but you might appreciate the oil a bit more once you know how difficult it is to produce.
Argan Oil = countless benefits
What I love about the argan oil is that you can apply it from head to toe, no restrictions. I often apply it on the tips of my hair, as it hydrates it and helps fight split ends. A lot of beauty experts advice using the argan oil as a hair conditioner as it makes hair more manageable and gives it additional shine. As I have thick hair, I put It several days in a row in small amounts, and my texture of hair does not make it look greasy.
I have purchased the Josie Maran 100% pure argan oil for $48.00 (for 50 ml) and I wondered if it was over-priced. However, I quickly changed my mind when I read that it takes 30 kilograms of nuts to produce 1 kilogram of argan oil. And if in the same time you manage to support a female community, the price tag definitely makes more sense!
Being 100% organic, the Josie Maran Argan Oil nourishes different types of skin: dry, sensitive and normal. As I have dry skin and live in a country which makes it even drier, the nutrients in the oil are excellent for providing protection against further dryness and can speed up the healing of the skin. The product is not only restricted for dry skin, but it can also be used by girls with acne. As acne is usually caused by oily skin, you might wonder how applying extra oil can be of any help. However, as the Josie Maran oil is non-greasy, it helps to balance the skin by providing natural moisture. For the readers who have started worrying about aging, argan oil is also, with its antioxidant properties, an ideal anti-aging product. I do not need to combine with other products, as I feel my skin gets the necessary treatment with this one. As the Josie Maran Argan Oil is cruelty-free and vegan, it definitely is my number one choice!
Next to all of its nourishing properties, it is the rich and interesting history of argan oil which fascinates me the most and makes me appreciate every drop of this product. If you are interested in other tips on updating your skincare routine, make sure to find the best tips here!
