Traveling: Unlocking Capri, Italy

    Italy
    Capri
    Capri

The small island of Capri is best known for its azure waters as well as the 2 natural rocks called Faraglioni. Even if it’s only around 15 km2, the island has more luxury stores than many of the European cities. It is also one of the most desired vacation destinations in the world.

If it’s not on your travel bucket list, let me give you some reasons why you should consider adding it...

    1. A small island with an elegant vibe

If there was one thing I was not expecting when I landed on the island was to see elegant people wearing the finest outfits.

Both men and women were polished-looking and made it all feel effortless. Even at 15 degrees Celsius, the ladies were wearing sandals and silky dresses, and men, linen suits.

My feeling on the island was that there is no such thing as being overdressed.

    2. Nature’s beauty at its finest

    Beautiful azure water? Checked!

    Amazing landscape? Checked!

Low traffic on the island? Checked!

Trails for walking (only) and enjoying nature? Checked!

At first, it might look difficult to always go on foot, but after a few hours, you will realize that you can hear birds, the wind, and the sea.

On the island, you can rent scooters and bicycles, but you will still have to walk to all the main attractions.

In Capri central area, you cannot drive, only walk. So plan your days and shoes wisely.

    3. Aspirational living

For sure the island's residents are wealthy. From the houses to the overall cost of living, the inhabitants are among the 1%.

One can only hope to one day be part of their group.

Many celebrities have visited the island and you can spot photos of Leonardo DiCaprio, Mariah Carey, and many others shown in the photos displayed in various restaurants.

You will see the 5 stars hotels as well as restaurants with Michelin stars.

    4. Foodies heaven

From restaurants that have Michelin stars, to taverns and pizzerias, the island has something for everyone.

Depending on your taste and budget, you have a variety of places to choose from.

    5. Shopping destination

Again, depending on your taste and budget, you can choose to shop for luxury -> Hermes, Chanel, Prada or go for authentic Italian designs.

You can even buy the island's perfume which is presumably made from natural ingredients only.

Costs and Way of Getting to the Island

A few administrative details if you are planning a trip here and what to expect on the prices side.

The closest airport is in Napoli, and from there you can take the boat to reach Marina Grande port.

The boat trip is around 1h and multiple companies operate, during the high season it is better to book the trip in advance. The overall price per ticket is ~ 20 euros.

If you rent a car on the continent, you can bring it to the island, but please note that the streets are narrow and access is not allowed in the center of the cities.

The best way to get around is by scooter, bus, or taxi.

Capri is more expensive than Anacapri, but also more beautiful.

Prices for a night of accommodation start at around 110 euros per night but can go up to thousands if you want to stay in a 5-star hotel.

A pizza starts at around 10 euros but can go up to 30 euros. An Aperol Spritz starts at 9 euros and can go up to 20 in a regular restaurant (not a 5-star one).

    Conclusion

Capri is always a good idea if you want to enjoy the beauty of Italy but in a stylish manner. Nature and luxury in the heart of Europe.

What are your plans for this spring?
